Prayer for Writers

P is for Prayer for Writers

Dear Muse,

I thank you for the technology at my fingertips that allows me to create my stories. I thank you for the authors who have come before me and the writers who surround me today. I thank you for the talent you have blessed me with and the inspiration you offer me. You have taught me so much and you continue to teach me whenever I pick up my pen. Please keep me in your thoughts whenever you pass out your surges of creativity. Help me to start each day with zest to continue my work-in-progress. Ward of writer’s block and help me to look at my story with fresh eyes. Let me stay positive in my pursuits of publication and not be let down by rejection. Give me the strength to look past bad reviews and not let nasty criticisms impact my writing. Please keep me on the path of my goals so I may complete them at a timely manner. Open my eyes to marketing possibilities and new opportunities to heighten my career. Help me to touch my readers. Continue to reward me with story ideas so I can impact and entertain more people than I ever thought possible. Keep my computer virus free and my pens full of ink. I also pray for the writers like me who need a boost of confidence. Help them to find their true potential, encourage them when they are at their lowest, and remind them that they wouldn’t have their precious talent if they weren’t meant to be published one day. I pray too for the writing industry and that there will always be a place for me and other talented, deserving writers. Thank you.

Amen!

Amen! I think you covered it all. Basically, keep a positive and hopeful attitude.

That was rather beautiful! I feel like writing right now! :D

Love it! But if I tried to pray to my muse, he'd probably tell me to shut up...

Stephanie Faris said...

I'd probably thank her (?) for keeping the ideas coming, faster than I can use them sometimes!

Michael Di Gesu said...

Amen...

You've said it all, Chrys....

Happy Easter...

Crystal Collier said...

Indeed. Without the technology I'd be a mess. Love this!

Great! I was hoping that I covered everything that concerns writers. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Thank you, Kyra! And that was my goal. :D

Chrys Fey said...

lol Some muses can be funny like that. But there are times when a muse is silent and a prayer is necessary. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Oh yes. My muse sends me more ideas than I know what to do with!

Chrys Fey said...

Thank you, Michael! Happy Easter!!! :D

Chrys Fey said...

:D It's funny you said that because my T post is about technology.

I wrote about prayer too from a different perspective. I really enjoyed your prayer and will use it. Actually, I can use it right now, LOL! Thank you and enjoy the holiday week!

I'll just add my name to the bottom of that prayer...from me too. ;) Very nice.

Julie Flanders said...

I agree with others - you definitely covered it all. :)

Tasha Duncan-Drake said...

I really think you have it all covered, everyone above is right :). That is a very comprehensive prayer to any muse.

You might be on to something here. Let's form an Authors Anonymous! :)

I don't have a muse, but I would pray the same things! All good blessings to be thankful for and to pray to continue! Thanks, and like Kyra said, I think I feel like writing now!

Never forget to feed the Muse - Chocolate Easter Eggs might come in handy. Thanks, Chrys, for this timely and timeless prayer we writers should utter more often.
Happy Easter.

Chrys Fey said...

I was just going to head over to your blog, Stephanie!

I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend too! :)

Chrys Fey said...

Go right on ahead, Ilima. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Awesome! I was hoping I did. :)

Chrys Fey said...

My goal was for everyone could use it and it would cover all writing matters. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Now that's an idea!

Chrys Fey said...

It could be a prayer for a muse, God, or any higher being you believe in. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Never! She loves chocolate just as much as I do. ;) You're welcome, Inge! And Happy Easter!!!!

I don't have a muse, but if I were Catholic, I definitely would've chosen Saint Jerome as my patron saint, since he's very popular with writers. They feel he understands them on a deep level, since he was a writer and such a man of letters himself.

Chrys Fey said...

I love learning about other religions, but I never knew about Saint Jerome. That's neat and I would pray to him even though I'm not Catholic. :)

Donna Smith said...

...exactly so!
I do need to dig out some chocolate. Did you add chocolate to your list of ways to get in the "zone"? I find that also helps!

Unknown said...

Amen to that, dear muse! This was really inspiring and touching on so many levels. I think your muse is quietly listening to you and answering your prayers because some of them have already been answered. You encourage me and inspire me every time I stop by your blog. I thank the muse gods for brining you into my world. You are an incredible writer and a drear friend! Hugs and Happy Easter!!

Chrys Fey said...

Thank you for saying that, Gina. I'm going through a tough time outside of writing so your comment helped to lift me, if at least momentarily. Thank you and Happy Easter, my friend!<3 :)

You asked for all there is to ask for!

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

Very cute. I do feel thankful to have the technology available to me and the community of other writers.

Kristin Smith said...

Amen!! Beautiful prayer, wonderfully said. I can't think of anything to add to it, but I appreciate you praying for me and all the other writers who need a boost of confidence. I love it when you say that we wouldn't have this talent if we weren't meant to be published one day. I'd never thought it of it that way before, but that is so true! Thank you for putting it into perspective for me! :)

Loni Townsend said...

Excellent prayer! I found myself nodding to every line. Thank you for writing this.

J.H. Moncrieff said...

That's worth getting framed and hanging on the wall. Beautiful, Chrys. I think you've covered everything I would say, other than "Thank you for letting me scare the crap out of people. Amen."

Trisha said...

This is a great writer's prayer! :)

Technology is awesome, so long as it doesn't go on the fritz and destroy our precious digital work!

Chrys Fey said...

One can never be too thorough when praying. :)

Chrys Fey said...

So do I, Susan. :)

Chrys Fey said...

It's important to prayer for others, not just ourselves.

When I was down in the dumps about getting published, I always told myself that I wouldn't have my talent (or my story ideas) if I wasn't meant to be published, and I've been saying it to struggling writers too. Because I believe it. :)

Chrys Fey said...

Great! I'm happy that every agrees with everything I added. :)

Chrys Fey said...

That's a good idea. I'd love to print it, put it in a pretty frame, and hanging it right about my computer screen. :)

haha Scaring people is good! ;)

Chrys Fey said...

Thank you, Trisha!

Technology is awesome, but my T post will discuss the not so awesome parts...

Chrys Fey said...

No, I didn't add chocolate. I added this: "Try training your eyes on something other than the page, such as a pretty picture or out a window, and let your hand flow across the page with your thoughts." And I thanked you for the idea. :)

Kat Sheridan said...

Oh, that's lovely! Unfortunately, my muse only responds to offers of cake with buttercream frosting. LOL!

Chrys Fey said...

That is unfortunate, because she's not the one who will have to work out later. lol ;)
