Money Mindset Book Recommendations + WEALTH DATES

Money is everywhere. 💰

The device you’re using to read this blog post? Money.

The electricity in your home, powering your computer and other appliances? Money.

The chair/couch you’re sitting on? Money.

The food you eat? Money.

The air conditioning or heat in your home, the gas, the water? Money, money, money.

The vehicle you use to get to where you want to go, the gas in the tank, or any other mode of transportation you use (buses, trains, ride sharing, bicycle)? Money, money, money.

I could go on and on.

Money IS everywhere, and yet, most of us don’t have a good relationship with it, going as far back as our childhoods (how our parents reacted to money). Our relationship/trauma with money can even be generational. Most of us hate money because of how it makes us feel, which stems from our money story.

We feel guilty for having money.

We feel shame for wanting money.

We feel insecure when we don’t have money.

We feel scared when we use money.

Again, I could go on and on.

It’s time to change ALL of this.

"It is up to us to apply our morals and values to money , decide how we desire money to work for us, and use money for good and well." - Amanda Frances from Rich as F*uck

January of this year I was called to devote the year to abundance and transformation. Part of that involved learning about money mindset and fixing my mindset around money.

In February of 2022, America had its Pluto Return (when Pluto returns to the exact degree and sign it was in at the moment the United States was born...during the signing of the Declaration of Independence).

When this happens to a country, big shit happens (not immediately but over time and in fact, had already started well before the return as Pluto moved into this position).

For America, Pluto’s Return is in Capricorn, a sign that signifies money, so fixing one’s money mindset is extremely important to do, like, NOW. Read more.

To fix my money mindset, I read books such as the ones I recommend in this post; watched IGTVs by Gina Frances and Amy Rushworth; and listened to The Amy Rushworth Show, a podcast on Spotify. Amy is amazing. She’s an unapologetic life coach and 7 figure CEO. For those who resonate with her, they can learn a lot, as I did and continue to do.

NOTE: Both Gina and Amy cater primarily to womb holders and people who identify as women with their content. Amy also teaches other life coaches, but the information she shares can still be applied by other entrepreneurs and business women.

My Favorite IGTVs from Amy Rushworth:

Manifesting Techniques That ACTUALLY Work Part 1

Manifesting Techniques That ACTUALLY Work Part 2

(The first two are the very first two that I ever watched which changed everything for me.)

Plateau to OVERFLOW in Biz, Brand, Money, & Leadership

Ancestral Blueprints Around Money & Manifesting

(The Ancestral Blueprints one is so good. If you watch just one of the IGTVs, make it that one.)

And my favorite The Amy Rushworth Show Podcast Episodes:

Confidence Through Big Life Changes

I first heard about devoting a day to money and abundance through Gina Frances, an embodiment facilitator/menstrual business coach.

You can check out this IGTV from Gina, which kicked off her Money Monday feature that she did for a short time on Instagram. In this IGTV she talks about what she did for her Money Mondays. Now, she does her money practices on Thursday, which is ruled by Jupiter and is associated with abundance, career, luck, money, and wealth.

What is a Wealth Date?

A day devoted to money and abundance and YOU!

(Which you don’t have to call a "Wealth Date," or “Money Monday,” or even “Money Day,” but getting comfortable with a phrase like this could be a part of your healing process around money and making money FUN.)

On Thursdays, I spend time being grateful, manifesting, and connecting to money.

You can choose the day that feels right for you, whether that's Monday, Thursday, or Saturday.

How Wealth Dates can look for me:

- wear citrine earrings because citrine attracts money and abundance

- look at all of my finances, accounts, bills, expenses, etc.

- shop for groceries and check out my order for curbside pickup (for the next day)

- pay off any bills not paid on the first of the month

- donate money to a cause I believe in, if I hadn’t already done so for that month

- read a chapter or two in a book about money mindset, such as the ones I share below

- watch an IGTV and/or listen to a podcast about abundance or money, like the ones I shared above

- create a list of gratitudes

- create a list of desires

- say affirmations like “I love money and money loves me,” which is from Jen Sincero’s book.

- do an abundance or manifestation meditation

Check out my Guided Meditation playlist on YouTube.

You can also check out Amanda Frances’ meditations here: https://amandafrances.com/wealthy-woman-meditation-series/ She is the author of Rich as F*ck, a book I’ll share below.

- listen to and dance to my Money & Abundance Playlist (I even like to have fun and make it rain with Monopoly money. The point is to be silly and to create a fun vibe around money.)

Here’s my Money & Abundance playlist on Spotify:

You can also check out the playlist on the Spotify app here and add it to your library by clicking the ❤️.

- spend time at my abundance altar (I light a tea light candle, incense, and vibe to my playlist. A few items on my abundance altar: a box of treasures, a stack of Monopoly money, and a jar to collect loose change.)

- pull a card from my Practical Magic oracle deck for the week

It’s not an exaggeration to say that for a while I did ALL of these things.

On your Wealth Dates (or Money Days), you don’t have to go all-out like I have. Or be as woo-woo as me. (BTW I am very woo-woo and proud of it!)

After looking at your finances, you can complete a couple of actions, such as reading from a book OR listening to a podcast AND creating a list of gratitudes and desires.

It’s the intention and the action that’s important, not how much you do.

"Money is a neutral resource. It has no free will of its own. It exists for the reasons you say it exists. It does what you tell it to do." - Amanda Frances from Rich as F*uck

Now it’s time for book recommendations!

Money Mindset Book Recommendations:

NOTE: You can read ANY of these books for the reading challenge for writers I’m hosting called Read With Fey, because writers DO need to fix their mindsets around money, too. You can join on The StoryGraph here. Yes, even now. But you don’t have to be on The StoryGraph to participate. Check out all the details here: Read With Fey: Challenge For Writers

Books I've Read:

You Are A Badass At Making Money

by Jen Sincero

Buy @ Bookshop

MY REVIEW: Everything I'd previously learned through watching IGTVs and listening to podcasts I  found in this book (possibly where they got the ideas/concepts), but I still greatly enjoyed this book (5-stars), so if  podcasts, IGTVs, and the coaches I named above are not your thing, but reading books is your thing, I highly recommend you start with this book.

BLURB: You Are a Badass at Making Money will launch you past the fears and stumbling blocks that have kept financial success beyond your reach. Drawing on her own transformation--over just a few years--from a woman living in a converted garage with tumbleweeds blowing through her bank account to a woman who travels the world in style, Jen Sincero channels the inimitable sass and practicality that made You Are a Badass an indomitable bestseller. She combines hilarious personal essays with bite-size, aha concepts that unlock earning potential and get real results.

Learn to:

- Uncover what's holding you back from making money

- Give your doubts, fears, and excuses the heave-ho

- Relate to money in a new (and lucrative) way

- Shake up the cocktail of creation

- Tap into your natural ability to grow rich

- Shape your reality--stop playing victim to circumstance

- Get as wealthy as you wanna be

Rich as F*ck

MY REVIEW: At times, I didn't like Amanda Frances's voice. Her voice can trigger people with various levels of discomfort, from annoyance and jealousy to aggravation. As a matter of fact, the person who recommended this book, and who was the reason why I picked it up, said that she didn't like Amanda's voice or how she said things, but that she recognized that it's the people whom she doesn't particularly agree with or enjoy listening to that she knows she has the most to learn from.

With that said, there were a lot of good nuggets throughout this book. I highlighted sentences and circled paragraphs and did the journal prompts at the end of each chapter. There's a lot of nice information and quotes in this book that I enjoyed, such as the two in this post I made into graphics for this post.

The other thing I'll say (aside from her voice) is that she repeated herself A LOT and the book could've used a really good final edit, as I found a whole paragraph that had been duplicated back-to-back and many spelling errors, missing words, or duplicated words. Better proofing could've helped this book significantly.

The Soul of Money

by Lynne Twist

Buy @ Bookshop

BLURB: This liberating book shows us that examining our attitudes toward money--earning it, spending it, and giving it away--offers surprising insight into our lives. Through personal stories and practical advice, Lynne Twist asks us to discover our relationship with money, understand how we use it, and by assessing our core human values, align our relationship with it to our desired goals. In doing so, we can transform our lives.

The Soul of Money now includes a foreword from Jack Canfield and a new introduction by Lynne Twist, in which she explores the effects of the Great Recession and environmental concerns about our monetary needs and aims.

On My TBR List:

We Should All Be Millionaires

by Rachel Rodgers

Buy @ Bookshop

BLURB: Only 10 percent of the world's millionaires are women, making it difficult for women to wield the economic power that will create lasting equality. Whatever is stopping you from having seven figures in the bank--whether it's shaky confidence, knowledge gaps when it comes to wealth building tactics, imposter syndrome, a janky mindset about money (it's okay, we've all been there!), or simply not knowing where to begin--this book shows you how to clear every obstacle in your way, show up, and glow up.

We Should All Be Millionaires will forever change the way you think about money and your ability to earn it.

In this book, Rachel Rodgers-- a Black woman, mother of four, attorney, business owner, and self-made millionaire--shares the lessons she's learned both in her own journey to wealth and in coaching hundreds of women through their own journeys to seven figures.

Inside, you'll Learn:

- Why earning more money is not "selfish" or "greedy" but in fact, a revolutionary act that brings the economy into balance and creates a better world for all.

- Why most of the financial advice you've heard in the past (like "skip your daily latte to save money") is absolute, patriarchal nonsense.

- An eye-opening history lesson on how women and people of color have been shut out of the ability to build wealth for centuries--and how we can fix this.

- How to stop making broke-ass decisions that leave you feeling emotionally and financially depleted and start making million-dollar decisions instead.

- Why aiming to earn $100K per year is not enough, and why you need to be setting your goals much higher.

- Strategies to bring more money in the door and fatten your bank account immediately. (Including Rodgers'$10K in 10 Days Challenge which hundreds of women have completed--with incredible results.)

It's time to construct an entirely new attitude about money, claim your power, and build the financial security that you need and deserve -- so you can stop just surviving, and start thriving. Let's begin.

You've just been programmed to block your Universal right to wealth with guilt, shame or embarrassment. Even if you're unaware of these blocks and fears, you're probably not earning what you're worth.

In Get Rich, Lucky Bitch! you'll learn how to unlock your hidden potential for abundance and upgrade your life forever. 2. I was unaware of the Pluto return, but that makes a lot of sense. It puts things in perspective. I've had an interesting work year which created an abundance that I was not expecting. It's an interesting position to be in for a change.

  3. Many people have an unhealthy relationship with money. It sounds like you've put a lot of energy into figuring out how to have a good relationship with money. I'm glad gratitude is part of it. It's so important in life to be grateful for what we have.

    1. I'd say just about everyone has an unhealthy relationship with money, no matter how much of it they have. I am still putting that energy into fixing my relationship with money, but it has been worth it. It's been an interesting and healing and fun journey.

  4. I've read parts of "Your Money or Your Life" years ago. I never heard of "money day" but feel it is a good idea. Also, gratitude is something we all miss and can change our mindset to the positive.

  5. So many of us learn about handling money from our parents. I definitely learned from my mom.

I haven't read any of the books you mention here. I think that's a first for me with one of your book rec lists. :)

    1. Yes, and what I saw from my parents wasn't a healthy relationship with money.

It had to happen eventually. lol

  6. I'm one of those lucky people who can live and support a family comfortably on just my income. My husband played a major role in that. He's got a money mind and managed to pay off our mortgage in 8 years. As such, money isn't at the forefront of my mind, but I do hope to impart good management to my kids.

  7. Womb holder, here. :D I love that term. So, I learned alot about my relationship with money during my divorce. I have also suffered financial abuse and boy, it really does a number on your psyche. I have addressed these issues in my divorce book to help other womb holders who may have been ingrained with 'nice girl' thoughts in relation to money.
Thanks for sharing this, Chrys. I just love some of these ideas. I'd like to switch up my altar to include a money manifesting meditation. I don't know why I haven't done this sooner. The books all look interesting, too! Thanks for sharing your reviews!

    1. lol Womb holder is such a lovely inclusive term that I've learned.

Financial abuse can be so crippling. I love that you talk about that in your book to help other womb holders heal from that. <3

I am thrilled you're going to change up your altar to include a money manifesting mediation. That's awesome!

  8. I'm quite of the opposite mindset. I have lived without money several times in my life. It certainly makes one an outcast from established societies, and can lead to "gray areas" of law when it comes to eating food from nature. But a utopian society, it's generally agreed, requires eliminating money; that people would do jobs for enjoyment and the betterment of everyone, not to get paid. But we don't live in such a world, so it's easy to see why money would be a big value to people trying to succeed in the current world.

“Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries.”

My IWSG blog post discussed my love of originality. I'm looking forward to the bout of books readathon and WEP's flash fiction later this month.
Life threw me a curveball with a neighborhood crisis this week, but we got through it.
Fun fact: August is the only name of a month that's also a popular name among 👶 baby boys.

  9. @J Lenin Dotner, I have lived in poverty. Not everyone has the same experiences or manage as easily without money.

To get to a utopian world, though, most of us would still have to fix our money mindsets because of our dependency (and the world’s dependency) on money. A utopian world with no money would take a great shift. Not just in society and government, etc., but within ourselves.

Anne Herbert’s quote: Libraries are amazing, but they do charge fines if you’re late, and they usually won’t let you check anything out if you have fines that you can’t pay. lol Everything else, if you don’t check out items, is free, though, for patrons. Except, not being able to check out what you want can make things harder if you have limited resources, such as transportation, and have to keep returning to the library for what you require, rather than have the ease of checking things out to bring home.
