Character Interview with Brock Scutter

Hi, Brock Scutter!

What is Hidden Gypsy Magic about?

The Salem Wildlife Sanctuary is Gwen Taylor's life work.  Her Irish Gypsy heritage provides a hidden talent she uses to help the creatures under her care.  But even her magical skills can't help new rescues in dire need of veterinary care.

The opportunity of signing on as the vet for Gwen's sanctuary dropped into Brock Scutter's lap after he expanded his practice to include wildlife. The personal attraction he and Gwen experience is undeniable the more their professional and personal lives collide.

Touring the only "non-haunted" house in Salem they both feel a spark of magic.  A trip to his family's cabin uncovers a heritage he didn't know existed.  If they want a future together, it means facing the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic and a race against the clock to correct past wrongs.

1. Who would play you in a movie?

Jason Mamoa

2. What is your job?

Wildlife and domestic animal veterinarian. I just recently got my certification for treating wildlife and am now the vet for Salem Sanctuary.

3. What do you do for fun?

Until recently I was considered a workaholic. After vet school, I joined the Salem vet practice, then the owner wanted to retire, so I had to scrape up the money to by the practice. But then Gwen came into my life and things changes. A visit my family cabin in Puffin Cove, Maine was the first fun I’d had in a long time. Also there is this Owl’s Head lighthouse that I absolutely love. The expansive view of Penobscot bay is breathtaking.

4. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People that don’t take care of their pets. Or buy a pet on a whim without realizing the care, feeding and life span of that creature. So the poor animal through no fault of their own wind up in sanctuaries or worst.

5. How did you meet Gwen?

She is the owner/manager of Salem Sanctuary. We met in Lobster Cove, where my sister is the town veterinarian. Sis got a really bad case of the flu and I went to Lobster Cove, Maine to take over her practice until she got back on her feet.  Pepper is the owner of Lobster Cove Wildlife Rescue and Rehab. Gwen was visiting Pepper who is her best friend over the Christmas Holidays. We met when I brought over an injured owl on the endangered list for rehab.

6. What was your first impression of her?

Strange. She had bright pink and green highlights in her long black hair. But she was quite attractive. Also she is very independent and dedicated to the animals.

7. What kind of trouble do the two of you get into?

Trouble, nothing really. It seems to find us. Right now Gwen has had to hire extra security at Salem Sanctuary because of a poaching ring and breakins at the sanctuary. Then there was that little matter of the painting in the attic….

8. When did you know you were in love with Gwen?

When we spent a long weekend together at my families cabin in Puffin Cove and several unexplained events occurred. She didn’t bat an eye.

9. What moment of Hidden Gypsy Magic was your favorite?

When we explored the house that I was in the process of purchasing.  It is really something. Can’t tell you much more without giving things away.

10. What moment of Hidden Gypsy Magic caused you the most fear?

Not really fear, but concern for the employees and animals when the poacher broke into the sanctuary, kicked the dog that was trying to protect the shelter and then ran. Then there was the ghost bent on revenge…

11. Is there anything you did in Hidden Gypsy Magic that you would change if you could?

Nope, not one thing.

BIO:

Tena Stetler is a best-selling author of award winning paranormal romance with an over-active imagination.  She wrote her first vampire romance as a tween, to the chagrin of her mother and the delight of her friends. Colorado is home; shared with her husband, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-five-year-old box turtle. When she’s not writing, her time is spent kayaking, camping, hiking, biking or just relaxing in the great Colorado outdoors.

Her books tell tales of magical kick-ass women and mystical alpha males that dare to love them. Travel, adventure and a bit of mystery flourish in her books along with a few companion animals to round out the tales.

  12. Interesting way to tie together this book with a concern for animals, haunted houses, and poaching from an animal sanctuary...

  13. I always liked books with pet lovers in them because people who rescue animals or have pets (or both) truly understand how important animals are. And I share Brock's irritation with people who don't take care of their pets properly (or at all); they don't deserve to have the joy that pets bring to people's lives.
