Whom Would I Want to Marry? / Moonless Blogfest

Welcome to the Moonless Blogfest! We're here to celebrate the print release of Moonless by Crystal Collier. Join in on the fun!

In the English society of 1768 where women are bred to marry, unattractive Alexia, just sixteen, believes she will end up alone. But on the county doorstep of a neighbor’s estate, she meets a man straight out of her nightmares, one whose blue eyes threaten to consume her whole world—especially when she discovers him standing over her murdered host in the middle of the night.

Her nightmares become reality: a dead baron, red-eyed wraiths, and forbidden love with a man hunted by these creatures. After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world. To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with her beloved and risk becoming one of the Soulless.
So Crystal wants to know: If you lived in a society where arranged marriages were a la mode, whom would you beg your parents to set you up with? Why? (Literary characters and celebrities welcomed.)

MY ANSWER: At first, I thought this was going to be an easy question to answer, but for a single gal it’s not so easy. While I was pondering my options ;) I realized the point behind the question was asking my parents, which would mean I’d be an adolescent. After all, an adult wouldn’t have to ask their parents, and back in the day most young women were married before they were eighteen.

So I thought back on my crushes from when I was a teenager and my answer came instantly. I would beg, plead, and gush buckets of tears for my parents to set me up with Jared Leto, who played Jordan Catalano on My So-Called Life and is the front man for the band 30 Seconds to Mars, my all-time favorite band. My inner, gushing teenage self would prefer him to look like he did during his “The Kill” days though.

Oh, great . . . now she’s jumping around and squealing. I better go and get her under control. While I do, you can find the rest of the hop below!
And while you're at it, enter to win one of these great prizes!

  1. Every single time I see Jared Leto, all I can think of is "Jordan Catalano" and "My So-Called Life." Doesn't matter what else he's done/is doing, that is how I always think of him. :)

    1. I bet a lot of people (or mostly women haha) will always see him as Jordan Catalano. :)

  2. I gasped at your answer. Jared was so hot in my so called life, he still is. But his character was so bleeping moody. I could not marry him because of that, but good luck to you.

  4. HA! Im loving all the answers on this tour.
Using your logic, I had a thing for Tiffany when I was young.
"I Think We're Alone Now" had my teenage hormones going.

    1. It only makes sense to think back to teenage crushes. And frankly, easier. I'd have a much harder time picking who I'd want to marry at my age now. haha

  7. Love that you went back to your teen years to pick your match! (Hadn't even occurred to me to do that for mine = mine was probably lame. Or maybe I subconsciously didn't want everyone to think I'm an old man for choosing a character from the original 90210 or Princes Leia. :D)

    1. I still love Princess Leia! And I watch old episodes from the original 90210 from time to time, so I don't think anyone would think you're an old man! :)

  8. Hahaha, I loved E.J.'s comment. It never occurred to me either. *sigh* Maybe that means I'm old! Great choice.

  9. You put so much thought into your pick. I just went for eye candy.

  11. Oh, wow, I don't even know who Jared Leto is...which probably means he's from the 90s when I had small children who cried all the time and I spent every spare minute sleeping. Time to Google him.

  18. Exactly! It also took me a minute to realize this question only works for my adolescent self. Then I realized that I don't crush on cute guys like I used to as a kid anymore. Is that a function of age or b/c I'm happily married? DK, but recalling those supersized feelings for my crushes way back then was kinda fun.

    1. Every time I have to reply back to a comment, I get to see Jared's picture and my inner teen-aged self does back flips. lol I think as we get older the power of crushes dissipate a bit, but being in love and happily married certainly helps. :)

  20. I had to go back to my teen days, too. Even then, I'd have probably 'informed' my parents rather than ask or beg. I'm was just that much of a mouthy teen. *shrug*

  22. Love your answer . . . if I was a teen and asking my parents, I would have begged them to set me up with Michael J. Fox or maybe Tom Cruise . . . but knowing what I know now . . .well, my hubs is seriously the best.
