WHY GEEKS MAKE BETTER GIRLFRIENDS AND BOYFRIENDS
By
Christine Rains
With Valentine's Day coming up, romance (and chocolate!)
are on the minds of many folks. Everyone has a fantasy of their perfect day
with their significant other. And so often after February 14th, I hear the
stories of disappointment. And not just from the women.
This is because people tend not to look twice at geeks.
There is a general stereotype of socially inept and unemotional nerds that has
blocked people from finding happiness with awesome individuals. Geeks make
excellent girlfriends and boyfriends.
Here's why:
1) Geeks are smart. You'll not have to worry about
idiotic chatter during dinner or that she won't understand when you're talking
politics. They'll always remember a date and never forget what's important to
you.
2) Geeks may be under-appreciated, but they'll never take
you for granted. They'll always value you and respect what you love. They will
go out of their way to let you know they love you.
3) Geeks love to play. Video games, board games, or in
the bedroom. They'll help you nurture your inner child and build that LEGO
Deathstar with you.
4) Geeks are curious. They're willing to try new things.
If something caught your interest in a new book and you want to give it a try,
you'll have an eager partner!
5) Geeks have a vivid imagination. Wink, wink, nudge,
nudge, say no more!
QUESTION: Can you give us a reason why geeks make better
girlfriends and boyfriends?

Dice and Debauchery, Book 1
A weekend away at a convention is exactly what overworked
student Morgan needs. Dressed as her character from her favorite online game,
Morgan is braced—seriously, could her corset be tighter?—to meet the other
players. As Lady Gyrfalcon, she’s ready for everything—except her intense
attraction to Dean. A clandestine meeting in the hallway of the hotel and
Morgan’s corset is looser but now she can’t breathe for entirely different
reasons.
Utterly charmed, Morgan decides to roll the dice and
indulge in a fantasy-worthy weekend of sexy roleplaying, scorching sex and life-altering
orgasms. Still, through it all Morgan is too smart to believe the chemistry
constantly stripping her of costumes and control can last more than the length
of the convention. But if she wants to keep a relationship so intense she
thought it only existed in fiction, she’s going to have to let go of her
cool-headed logic and allow herself to fall far and fast for the perfect guy.
A Romantica® contemporary erotic romance from Ellora’s
Cave

We do like to play in the bedroom and often!
Geeks agree to go do all the geeky, corny stuff with you without question.
Congratulations, Christine!
Thanks so much for hosting me today, Chrys! :)
Thank you, Alex! Here, here, to geeks! :)
With geeks you never have to worry about the wandering eye. They are singularly focused...to a fault!
Great article! :)
gotta love a geek! they can help with any iPhone or tech problems--my last love interest in my novel was a rock star heartthrob, and my new boy in my WIP is a tech guy--he's just as much fun to write as the heartthrob!
Geeks aren't afraid to try new things. Everyone wants to be a geek.
You're so very welcome, Christine! :)
That's right! Geeks are loyal.
Geeks are awesome! From a rock star to a tech guy...that's awesome! :D
I like to think I'm a bit of a geek. ;)
Haha! Too funny, Alex.
I like the playing part :)
Hi, Chrys!
Happy Valentine's Day ♥
Alll my friends are geeks. They're amazing. My sister who's a non-geek thinks we're all boring, though :-)
Hi, Carol! Happy Valentine's Day to you, too!
I have a lot of geeky friends, too. They are more fun (to me) than my non-geek friends. :)
LOL! I always dated geeks. That is, until my hubby came along. He dived into the geek world after meeting my brothers though, so I guess that counts, right? ;)
Thank you, DL! And yes, we are. :)
(For some reason, the reply button on the comments isn't working anymore for me! I need some geek help!)
Beth, that's awesome! I love when romances feature tech guys.
Susan, most everyone! :)
Carol, thank you!
Vanessa, my geeky friends are fascinating folks. Non-geeks just don't get us! ;)
Crystal, that definitely counts. It means he always had a geek in him!
Great list! Geeks are the best. I doubt anyone else would be able to understand my intense need to fangirl, after all. LOL.
I think #3, #4, and #5 say it all! Way to go, geeks!
Great article! Geeks have always been my first choice. Being mostly geek myself, I don't quite trust the fashionable and socially adept. Intelligence, imagination, and the ability to think out of the box will always trump shallow charm.
VR Barkowski
Geeks are great! I think I'm more of the geek in my current relationship, but without him I wouldn't have known the reference in #5 and would not have laughed as hard as I did! Maybe we're both a little geeky...
lol keeping that inner child alive and willing to try anything new is why a geek works at my zoo
I totally understand! *LOL* Thank you. :)
Three cheers for geeks! :)
Here, here! Well said, VR. :) Thank you!
enjoyed interview. i guess that's why they say blessed are the geeks.
Hehehe! I'm glad I could make you laugh. :)
Woot for that! :)
Thank you, Cotton. Geeks surely are! :)
Good luck Christine with the book, sounds like an interesting plot. Cute article about geeks. I think I married one.
Betty
Geeks can explain Sheldon's rants on the Big Bang Theory. They are often witty and amusing, but hide their humorous sides - or maybe most people are just too dull to understand the jokes so they've given up.
That is an enticing blurb. I'm still mulling over geeks are willing to try anything. My imagination is smokin hot right now :)
With a geeky husband, you can actually have a conversation about philosophy and then shoot him with a Nerf dart gun. Or both at the same time. :)
Because they make you laugh when you need one most.
Oh no! I'm sorry! But I see it's working now with the comments below. Sometimes Blogger likes to act up.
Counts to me! ;)
Geeks unite! :D
Geeks are awesome! Plus, they're more willing to listen to your obsessions.
Glad you enjoyed Christine's fun article, Larry. :)
Loved the blurb. NerdsGeeks know how to have fun.
I have a friend who used to teach elementary school music, and was once accused by one of her students of having a nerd for a husband. She immediately corrected the student, saying her husband is a geek, not a nerd, and there's a big difference. She also told her students they should really consider marrying geeks.
Hehehe, I love this post. Thanks, Chrys and Christine!
Geeks are just awesome!!
I remember when I was called a loser by my "best friend" in high school and feeling devastated. Nerd is a more offensive name while geek is more of an enduring term.
Thanks for stopping by, Lynda!
HECK yes!! This post is 100% true. Love it, Christine :)
I am so entertained by shows like "Big bang Theory" - love them!
Geeks do have vivid imagination. Congratulations Christine. Loved the interview, Chrys.
Then you're a lucky woman! :) Thank you, Betty.
I love The Big Bang Theory!
The geeks I've known are very willing! Hehehe!
Great post, Christine! Geeks are so very smart one reason to date them is to get investment advice. Some of them are obsessed with the stock market and economics. :) Your book sounds like fun!
*LOL* That's awesome!
Cheers to that! :)
Most definitely! Except Harry Potter. My husband doesn't want to listen to that! *LOL*
That they do! :) Thank you, Mary.
HI Chrys ad Christine! My son is a computer nerd, and I can tell you those kids make a very good living. Another reason to love nerds!
I think your book is coming out at the right time, with all the press on 50 Shades. Best of luck :)
Ceil
I feel the same way and I know many others that do too. I'm a geek not a nerd! *LOL*
You're welcome, Lynda! :)
Geek high five!!! :) Thanks, Liz.
It's one of my favorite shows too. :)
Thank you, EAW. :)
Thanks, Lisa! My husband is very good with numbers, but isn't much of a stock market risk-taker. I'm more the gambler!
Thank you, Ceil! My husband is a computer programmer too. :)
When Geeks focus, they are truly focused - and when that focus is on someone they love, well . . . it's amazing! Also, geeks know when other geeks need time for their projects - my husband will quite happily geek out with me, and then quite happily let me write while he works on a code/mechanical/other project. He's an engineer with hobbies.
How about Greeks? :) I used to be a geek but I think technology passed me by
Geeks are less judgmental and gossipy than non-geeks.
Geeks are full of trivia...and eternally curious. That's perfect mix.
Geeks love to read and you can always talk about books. :) Fun post!
~Jess
Most geeks aren't egotistical idiots, so of course they make better girlfriends and boyfriends!
Glad you enjoyed Christine's guest post!
Hi Ceil! Computer techs do make good money these days.
Geeks are smart...but they're also VERY passionate about their interests so you'd better hope you're interested in the same subjects they are!
I think the media has given geeks quite the charming persona these past few years ~ Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds), Sherlock, Doctor Who ... all very clever and sweet (if they want to be). Perhaps more so, they understand that the need to passionately pursue an interest is fiercer than the need to belong to the mass.
I'm past that Fey...lol
I appreciate geeks and nerds. There's never a dull moment around them. Even with the quiet ones, there's a surprise.
LOL!
Great comment, Claudine! And you're right. Geeks are very popular these days. Not only do they make great characters for movies/shows/books, they are also great people. :)
